Hotspot BBQ & Evolution Talk

For this past week’s Hot Spot, we got tried our hand at some new team sports - ultimate frisbee and kickball! Although it was chilly, we warmed up quickly as we competed in our teams against one another. Who won? Let the pictures speak for themselves :)

Some of the teachers also got very serious about playing!

Later on, teachers Denny and Kevin presented their very first apologetics talk on EVOLUTION and how it doesn’t disprove God’s existence. With their help we were able to debunk strong claims that the evolution theory makes. What were some of the things you learned that day?

Note: Not the Pokemon evolution!

We are thankful to learn the many ways that Christianity stands up against different misconceptions and questions that people have. Looking forward to learning more at our next Hot Spot!

Community Service Trail Restoration

We spent a lovely Saturday morning restoring an Emeryville trail, which included some intense weeding in the outdoors. It was a great way to spend our free time and serve our community AND spend time with one another. :) Take a look!

Planet Wisdom Recap

The 8th grade boys and their teachers hit the road for the weekend to attend PLANET WISDOM, a regional youth conference packed with hilarious skits by The Skit Guys, amazing music by the Chris Coleman Band, and most importantly God's word! Special speakers Mark Matlock and Crystal Kirgiss delivered insightful and powerful talks about different topics such as "Learning New Disciplines" and "Seeing Media in a New Way", encouraging the youth to rise up and THRIVE in their identity as Christ followers. It was a short conference, but many students were empowered to take steps of faith in their relationship with God.  They even made decisions to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior! It was definitely an amazing experience to be in a room full of youth eager to learn more about God and Christian life. Hopefully all of Element can attend this conference in the years to come!

Knights at our Sophomore Night

Middle School Element is so thankful for the Berkeley college sophomores who came to visit us for our Friday Bible study this night! As a follow-up to Easter, we learned why we shouldn’t be ashamed of our faith and to have confidence of all that we learned.

We were also treated to a special song prepared by the sophomores. Do you remember?

Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns
"But the voice of truth tells me a different story / And the voice of truth says "Do not be afraid!" / And the voice of truth says "This is for My glory" / Out of all the voices calling out to me / I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth"

Later on, we built knight armor out of cardboard and competed to see which knight was the fastest, the most flexible, and the most durable! Can you tell who won?

Hotspot + Apologetics Recap

With Easter just right around the corner, we started off the night with an apologetics talk from your's truly and Elaine, answering the question, "Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead?".

We also had a special guest, Sophia T, present one of the points in the talk! A big thanks to her for helping us present to her fellow Element friends. :)

Then for the rest of hotspot, we captured some interesting pictures:

Oh hey! Sunday Recap! "Help My Unbelief" Part 2

This past Sunday, Elaine gave us the second message from the "Help My Unbelief" series. She explained to us how one way we can fight our doubts (our unbelief) is to surround ourselves with other believers who can encourage us! AND we got to experience a tug of war of epic proportions.

Here's how it played out:

Eighth grade guys = our doubts. 7th grade girls = us and our Christian friends. Who will win?
